Climate in Cancun

The hurricane season officially runs from June through November, with most hurricanes occurring in between August and October. However, Cancun and the Riviera Maya are rarely hit directly.
In the last 25 years exactly two hurricanes have hit the coast directly, modern early warning systems make it possible nowadays to predict hurricanes five days before their arrival. So there is no danger for vacationers, as the hoteliers are well prepared for the “worst case”.
When to go to Cancun
Basically, Cancun and the surrounding resorts of the Riviera Maya can be described as a year-round destination, as the temperatures are high all year round and the weather is mostly sunny. Due to the effects of the rainy season with existing hurricane danger, the summer months can be traveled with some restrictions. In addition, it will be oppressively hot in and around Cancun from mid- May.
We therefore recommend the period from December to the end of April as the best travel time for Cancun. In the best travel time, the temperatures rise to up to 32 degrees, the water temperature is comfortably warm at 26 to 27 degrees Celsius. The annual average temperature is 27.2 ° C. For comparison: Munich reaches an average of 8.6 ° C, in Berlin it is 9.6 ° C. The warmest month is August (29.7 ° C), coldest month of January with mean values of 24.1 ° C. The maximum water temperature is 29 ° C. Comfortable bathing is possible at these temperatures. All months have a water temperature of at least 21 ° C and are therefore suitable for a beach holiday.

The months of September and October are considered the rainy season, as more than 175 mm of precipitation can be expected per month.
